Mast cells and basophils

A
  • Major cells in the early phases of inflammation and hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Cellular bags of granules located in the loose connective tissues close to the blood vessels near the bodies surface (Skin), GI/digestive lining, and respiratory tracts.
  • Contain histamine, cytokines, and chemotaxic factors
  • Chemicals are released in two ways and they release things like histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and platelet activating factor: degranulation and synthesis.
