Mast cells and basophils Flashcards
1
Q
Mast cells and basophils
A
- Major cells in the early phases of inflammation and hypersensitivity reactions.
- Cellular bags of granules located in the loose connective tissues close to the blood vessels near the bodies surface (Skin), GI/digestive lining, and respiratory tracts.
- Contain histamine, cytokines, and chemotaxic factors
- Chemicals are released in two ways and they release things like histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and platelet activating factor: degranulation and synthesis.
2
Q
Degranulation
A
The release of contents of mast cells granules
3
Q
Synthesis
A
The new production and release of mediators in response to a stimulus
