Q

how do you multiply and divide in standard form?

A

rearrange the front numbers into a bracket and the powers of ten in a separate bracket. after this ensure the number is still in standard form

Q

how to add and subtract in standard form

A

ensure the powers if ten are the same, the number can go out if valid standard form. add or subtract front numbers. convert number into valid standard form.

16
Q

what happens when a fraction in a bracket is multiplied by a power

A

the top and bottom are both multiplied

17
Q

what do you do with a negative power

A

you turn it upside down. e.g 7^-3 = 1/7^2

18
Q

what are fractional powers

A

roots e.g power of one half is square root

19
Q

two stage fractional powers

A

split the fraction into a root then a power. root first then power page 17

20
Q

how do you factorise

A

find the common factor and divide both numbers by it

21
Q

what is the difference of two squares

A

a²-b² = (a+b)(a+b)

22
Q

how do you multiply surds

A

put the two numbers into a big root. multiply both numbers inside the root

23
Q

what happens when theres a fraction and the top and bottom are both rooted

A

the entire fraction is rooted

24
Q

what do you do when adding surds

A

do nothing. DO NOT USE MULTIPLICATION MEATHOD

25
what is (a+rootb)²
a² + 2arootb+b
26
what happens when expanding double brackets with surds in
page 20 because idek
27
what are the steps of rearranging formulas
1. remove any square roots by squaring both sides 2. get rid of any fractions 3. multiply out brackets 4. put all terms you want on one side and the terms you dont want on the others. 5. combine like terms and possibly factorise 6.divide any Ax= by A on both sides to get x= 7. if left with x² then square root
28
whats the standard format for a quadratic
ax² +bx+c=0
29
how do you factorise when A=1
1. ALWAYS arrange into standard format 2. write down 2 braclets with x in 3. find two numbers that multiply to get the end number and add/subtract to get the coefficient of x. 4.fill in the +/- signs and check they work 5.expand to check 6. solve the equasion by setting each bracket equal to 0. only if the wuestion says solve
30
when A is not = 1 3x² +7x-6=0
1. rearrange into standard format 2. write down the two brackets but have 3x in one bracket 3.find the two numbers that multiply to get the 6 (ignore the minus sign) try number pairs you just found untill you find one that makes 7x. each pair must be tried in 2 positions because on 3x 4.fill in +/- signs 5. check
31
quadratic formula
quite right
32
completing the square
rearrange into standard format write out initial bracket multiply out bracket and compare to original to find if you need to + or - a number to complete the square add or subtract the number to make it match the original.
33
what is completing the square
Completing the square means writing a quadratic in the form of a squared bracket and adding a constant if necessary.
33
how do you find frequency density
Frequency Density= Class Width / Frequency
