What is the formula for calculating the mean?
Mean = total of all values / number of values
How is the median defined?
The median is the middle number in a set of values when placed in ascending order. If the number of values is even, add the middle numbers together and divide by 2.
What is the mode in a data set?
The mode is the most common number in a data set. There can be more than one mode or none.
Define the range in statistics.
Range = highest number - lowest number
What does probability measure?
Probability measures how likely something is to happen.
What is the formula for calculating probability of an event?
Probability of event = number of ways event can happen / total number of possible outcomes
What do fractions represent?
Fractions tell you how many parts of a total you have.
What does the denominator of a fraction indicate?
The denominator tells you how many equal parts something is split into.
What does the numerator of a fraction indicate?
The numerator tells you how many parts you have.
How can you find equivalent fractions?
To find equivalent fractions, multiply or divide the numerator and denominator by the same number.
What is a mixed number?
A mixed number has a whole number and a fraction part.
What is an improper fraction?
An improper fraction is when the numerator is larger than the denominator.
How can you convert a mixed number to an improper fraction?
Make the whole number part a fraction, make it equivalent to the fraction part, then add them together into a single improper fraction.
What is the definition of a percentage?
Per cent means out of hundred.
How do you convert a percentage to a decimal?
To convert a percentage to decimal, divide it by hundred.
What is the relationship between fractions and decimals?
Fractions can be converted to decimals when the denominator is 10, 100, or 1000.
What is line symmetry?
Line symmetry is when you can split a shape in half with a line and both halves match.
What is rotational symmetry?
Rotational symmetry is the number of times you can rotate a shape so that it looks exactly the same.
What is the sum of angles in a triangle?
The internal angles of a triangle equal 180 degrees.
What is the sum of angles in a quadrilateral?
The internal angles of a quadrilateral equal 360 degrees.
What is the method to measure angles using a protractor?
Put the cross on the intersection point, align the 0 degrees line with one line, and read the value where the line crosses the protractor scale.
Define perimeter.
The perimeter is the length of the line that forms the shape.
What is the area of a square?
Area = length squared (A = l²)
What is the formula for the area of a rectangle?
Area = length x width (A = l x w)
