McNemar's Test and T-Test Flashcards
What does paired samples mean?
Data points are paired across two groups
What is McNemars test?
It is only available for 2 dichotomous variables
2-by-2 contingency table
What is a T-test?
Difference in group of variables (interval and ratio)
Compare means of populations
Null hypothesis is that means are equal
What are the 3 different types of T-Tests?
1) One-sample T-test
2) Independent (unpaired) samples T-Test
3) Paired samples T-Test
What is a One-Sample T-Test?
Binomial or Chi-Square goodness of fit
Compares the mean of 1 sample group against fixed value
What is a Independent samples T-Test?
Chi-Square test of association
Compares the observed difference between the means of 2 independent samples or categories
Paired samples T-Test?
McNemar’s Test
Compares the main difference of one group measure on two occasions
What is the null hypothesis like in an One-sample T-Test?
The population underlying the sample has the mean equal to the fixed value
What is the null hypothesis like in an Independent samples T-Test?
The populations underlying the 2 samples have equal means
What is the null hypothesis like in an Paired samples T-Test?
The population mean did not change
What is an parametric test?
Statistical tests based on the normally assumption
What is normality?
The sampling distribution of the mean is normal
What is equality of variance in independent sample T-test?
Variance of 2 populations are equal
If variance is not equal in an independent sample T-test, what other method can be used?
Welch’s T-test
What is Levees test of equal variance in an independent T-test?
The significance of difference in variances reported as p-values
