Measurement Techniques Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
Gas X is lighter than air + insoluble in water. Which method(s) can be used to collect X? Explain
A
- Upward deliverability because gas X is lighter than air
- Downward displacement of water as gas is insoluble or slightly soluble in water.
2
Q
X is colorless gas, which method do you use to collect?
A
Downward displacement of water because gas X is colorless
3
Q
What’s the purpose of a drying agent?
A
In order to remove moisture from sample of gas, drying agent is used
4
Q
What are some drying agents?
A
- Concentrated sulfuric acid ( H2SO4) except alkaline gases(NH3)
- Anhydrous CoCl2 or CaCl2
- Anhydrous CaO(base) except acidic gases(SO2, CO2, NO2, etc)
5
Q
Is pressure inversely proportional to volume?
A
- If pressure is increased, the particles move closer to each other, therefore volume decreases
6
Q
Is temperature directly proportional to volume?
A
- If temperature is increased then kinetic energy of the particles increases, hence the gaseous particles move further away from each other, so volume of gas increases
