Measurements Flashcards
Metric
A decimal system of messers and weights, based on the meter and gram. The length of one meter is 39.371.
Volume
The three-dimensional capacity of a given space.
Density
Weight per unit volume of a substance.
Power
The amount of work per unit of time. Source or men’s of supplying energy. In electricity is symbol is P and its units are the watt and kilowatt. Formula is P = volts x amps.
Temperature
The degree or intensity of hotness or coldness of anything as measured by a thermometer. The measurement of the intensity of speed of molecular motion.
Length
A measurement of linear distance form point A to point B.
SI Units
System International. A unit in the metric system of measurement adopted by most technical industries throughout the world
TD
Temperature difference.
Velocity
The rate of motion in a particular direction relation to time speed.
Kelvin
The thermometer scale on which the unit of measurement equals the centigrade degree and according the which absolute zero is 0 degrees, the equivalent of -273.16. Water freezes. Water freezes at 273.16 and boils at 373.16.
Area
Square measure found by multi ping length x width, or a circular the pi value of 3.141 by the radius square.
Mass
A quantity of matter cohering together to make on body which is usually of indefinite shape.
Is measure of quantity of matter that a body or object contains.
Force
That which produces or tend to produce, motion. It is accumulated pressure and expressed in pounds. If the pressure is to psi on a plate of 10sq in area. The force is 100 lbs.
Absolute 0
The zero themodymic temperature, the temperature of -273.16 c or (- 459.69 f) the hypothetical point at which all molecular activity ceases.
Flow rate
Amount fo fluid passing a given pint per unit time. Also the fuel input to burner measured in suitable units. Eg cubic centimeter per minute , gallons per hour , pounds per hour. It is referred to as firing rate.
Celsius
Germany word for centigrade. It refers to the metric system temperature scale origination by Andrew Celsius. In which 0 equals the freezing pint of water and 100 equal the boing point.
Fahrenheit
The thermometric scale in which under stand red atmospheric presure of 14.696psi at sea level boiling point of water is 212 f and the freezing point 32 f above zero.
Specific volume
Volume (in cubic feet) that on pound of air occupies a specific sen of conditions. The inverse relationship of density.
Ranking
Temperature scale using Fahrenheit divisions, with absolute zero at 0 degress R. The freezing pint of water is 492 degrees R and the boiling pint of water is 672 degress R.
