measuring behaviour Flashcards
(15 cards)
Why must mutually exclusive categories be used when defining behaviour?
So the clear and empirical measurements can be made during observations.
What is AdLib sampling method?
Note what is visible and relevant. Not necessarily a particular behaviour leading them to be more descriptive than analytical.
What is the problem with AdLib sampling?
Observations may be biased to a particularly active animal and will not be representative of the whole population.
What is the focal animal sampling method?
And observation based on a single specimen.
What is the problem with the focal animal sampling?
They are based on a single specimen therefore they may be entirely in active during the measurements given a falsely skew set of results.
What is a scam sampling method?
Entire group of individuals observed with simple categories
What is the problem with scam sampling?
He doesn’t get temporary accurate result of all the individuals cannot be observed at once.
What is the behaviour sampling method?
Only recording specific required behaviours.
What is the rate in relation to continuous behaviour recalling?
The bouts of time.
What is duration in relation to continuous recording?
The length of the bout.
What is latency in relation to continuous recording?
The time taken for the first behaviour to be performed.
What is the sequence in relation to continuous recording?
Order of behaviours.
What is the time recording method?
Behaviours can be recorded either of us have an exact song point or between sample intervals. For the best results duration of observation should be long and intervals between them should be short.
which calculation is used to calculate interobserver agreement?
Pc= (P1 row 1 x P2 column 1)+(P1 row 2 x p2 row 2)
P0=sum of diagonal entries/total number of entries.
P1= proportion of total for observer 1.
P2= proportion of total for observer 2.
Is the KAPPA test?
Calculation used to calculate the degree of interobserver agreement between two observations.
KAPPA= P0-Pc/1-Pc
