Mechanical Engineering Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the formula for stress?
Stress = Force / Area (σ = F/A)
What is the formula for strain?
Strain = Extension / Original Length (ε = ΔL/L)
What is Hooke’s Law?
Force = Spring Constant × Extension (F = kx)
What is the principle of moments?
Sum of clockwise moments = sum of anticlockwise moments (for equilibrium)
What is the formula for moment?
Moment = Force × Perpendicular Distance (M = F × d)
What are the conditions for equilibrium in a structure?
ΣForces = 0, ΣMoments = 0
What is the formula for kinetic energy?
KE = ½mv²
What is the formula for potential energy?
PE = mgh
What is the formula for power?
Power = Work / Time or Power = Force × Velocity
What is Young’s Modulus?
Young’s Modulus = Stress / Strain (E = σ/ε)
