rules or generally accepted ways of constructing meaning or organising media product
Technical Codes
the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text, for example the camera work in a film
Symbolic codes
show what is beneath the surface of what we see. For example, an actor’s performance shows you what the character is feeling.
Written codes
refer to text within the diegesis, or non-diegetic captions, which add meaning to the narrative and can be used to avoid confusion.
