Bupropion
Methylphenidate
Blocks dopamine reuptake and enhances release of dopamine and norepinephrine
improve alertness, psychomotor performance
increases sleep latency
Increase NREM stage 3 and 4
adenosine agonists, alcohol (acute ingestion), antihistamines, apomorphine, benztropine, carbamazepine, clonidine, Il-1, lithium, 1-tryptophan, mirtazapine, phenytoin, ritanserin, trazodone, TCA, trihexylphenidyl
Decrease NREM stage 3 and 4
adenosine antagonists, alcohol (withdrawal), barbiturates, benzodiazepines, beta adrenergic blockers, caffeine (during 1st half of sleep), corticosteroids, levodopa, methyldopa, prostaglandin E, SSRI, selegiline, stimulants
Risperdone
decrease awakenings, increase in stage 3, 4, decrease in REM sleep, no change in RL
can worsen PLM
Do not change rem latency
