A

DHC is not a pro drug so does not mean that it has to be broken down by the liver. Therefore metabolism is more regular and it can be x1-1.5 stronger than codeine.

What significance does eating grapefruit have when taking certain medications?

A

Grapefruit inhibits cytochrome P450, CYP3A4 which is involved in the metabolising drugs such as a calcium channel blocker. Therefore the levels of the drug are increased when grapefruit is consumed.
