- Created by Charles II
- Originally named “The Duke of York and Albany’s Maritime regiment of Foot”
- Wore Yellow Coats (was the Dukes favourite colour)
- Created to fight the Dutch during the Second Dutch War

Capture of Gibraltar
A
- 24th July 1704
- Partnered with Dutch Marines
- Took the rock, and defended it for the next 9 months.
- Only Battle Honour to show on the crest

Battle of Belleisle
A
- 7 June 1761
- First amphibious landing
- The laurel wreath became apart of the cap badge due in honour of this battle

Battle of Bunker Hill
A
- 17 June 1775
- British forces attempted to take Bunker Hill (near Boston) twice with no success. They brought in the Royal Marines, and they took the hill

Battle of Trafalgar
A
- 21 October 1805
- Around 3000 Royal Marines were present.
- Nelson went up against the French and Spanish
- The marines were a large factor with the boarding parties that captured multiple enemy ships

Gallipoli

- 28th April 1915
- Marines were involved during the initial landings on the peninsula.
- Marines bore the brunt of Turkish Attacks around Anzac Cove.

Raid on Zeebrugge

- 23 April 1918
- Successful Operation to deny the Germans use of the canal at Zeebrugge, Belgium
- Troops landed, and held positions under fire while others blocked the canal

- Over 16,000 Royal Marines took part in Operation Overload
- Royal Marines manned most landing craft and led the assault itself.

- successful operation to clear the mouth of the Scheldt river.
- Had little support

Recapture of the Falklands

- 14th June 1982
- First to contact the Argentinian invaders, killing approx 30 enemy until being overrun (no losses were taken)
- Was known to yomp across vast distances.
