Q

Describe the stores of the Multi Store Model (mention Coding, Duration and Capacity)

A

The sensory register holds information gained by the senses. The duration of it last less than a second and it can hold unlimited amount of memories.
The short term memory, codes acoustically and can last 18- 30 seconds, its capacity is 7 plus, minus two items
The capacity of the long term memory is unlimited, the duration can last a long time (years) and it is coded semantically

Q

What is Maintenane rehearsal and Retrieval

A

Maintanence regaresel is th e process of continually repeating something for it to be passed down to the LTM
Retrieval is the information passing from the LTM back to the STM

Summaries HM Case Study

A

HMs Case study supports the Multi Store Model, which argues that the Short term memory and the Long term memory are different stores. After his Hippocampus was removed, his Long term memory was affected while his Short term memory stayed intact. He was unable to build new memories and store them in his Long term memory, he was able to remember people from his past but was unable to remember the people he had just met. This shows that these are different stores and are not one
