Memory A03 Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

Discuss research into features of memory

A
  • Bahrick et Al - High ecological validity
  • Bahrick et Al - no control over EVs as field experiment. Some pps might’ve looked at yearbook recently.
  • Artificial tasks - Jacobs, P+P, Baddeley

Q

Outline and evaluate the multi store model

A
  • Reductionist - fails to outline the differnet types of STM and LTM
  • Primary recency effect supports MSM - rehearsal
  • H.M contradicts - after operation on hippocampus - unable to form new memories and lacked STM - suggests diff types of LTM
  • clive wearing supports - remembers LTM but can’t remember STM

Q

Outline and evaluate types of LTM

A
  • Clive wearing = evidence as procedural memory playing piano but no episodic memory
  • neuroimaging evidence - episodic associated with hippocampus whereas procedural is cerebellum
  • Cohen and Squire contradict - declarative and non declarative memory (semantic and episodic are bunched together in declarative).

Q

Outline and evaluate the working memory model

A
  • K.F supports - auditory can’t remember anything but visual STM is okay
  • Dual task performance - Baddeley and Hitch found could do visual and auditory tasks at same time
  • lacks clarity of central executive

Q

Discuss retrieval failure as an explanation of forgetting

A
  • supporting evidence - Godden and Baddeley - divers
  • supporting evidence - Carter and Cassaday - anti histamines
  • Context differences are very small in real life so exaggerated
  • Real world application - dementia - cues to trigger

Q

Discuss interference as an explanation for forgetting

A
  • Baddeley and Hitch = research support - rugby players that played more had more interference
  • Tulving found interference overcome by using cues - suggests issue is accessibility of memory rather than availability

Q

Discuss research into the effect of leading questions on accuracy of EWT

A
  • lab study so high internal validity
  • lab experiment = not representative as feelings of shock and fear would be much more heightened in real life than lab
  • sample was all students so not completely representative
