Q

What is the central executive?

A

Most important. Attentional process, monitors information. Allocates info into different slave systems.
Limited storage capacity.

Q

What is the episodic buffer?

A

Added in 2000. Temporary store for info that integrates visual, spatial, verbal info into “episodes”.
Seen as storage component for central executive, links working memory to LTM. Limited capacity of around 4 chunks.

Q

What is a strength of the working memory model?

A

Empirical evidence by Baddeley and Hitch.
Dual task technique- two tasks at once, one using PL one using CE. Found to be able to do both at once- supporting model to have separate parts in working memory.
High internal validity.

Q

What are 2 weaknesses of the working memory model?

A

Criticism of VSS.
Lieberman- blind people still have good spatial awareness despite no visual info. Visual and spatial should be separated.
Low internal validity.

Lack of clarity of CE.
Unsatisfactory- “most important but least understood”
Over-simplistic.
