Flashcards in Memory verses Deck (118):
Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers in the dark world, and spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realm. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm, therefore, having fastened the belt of truth around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and with your feet fitted with teh readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish flaming arrows of the evil one, also take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, rebuking, correction, and training in righteousness,
2 Peter 1:19-21
And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
We live for 70 years, or 80 years if we're healthy, yet even in the prime years there are troubles and sorrow. They pass by quickly and we fly away.
Notice their arrogance—they have no inward uprightness—but the righteous will live by their faith.
For by such grace you have been saved through faith. This does not come from you; it is the gift of God and not the result of actions, to put a stop to all boasting. For we are God's masterpiece, created in the Messiah Jesus to perform good actions that God prepared long ago to be our way of life.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what is says. Anyone who hears the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at himself in a mirror and after looking at himslef goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the one who looks at the perfect law of freedom and remains committed to it—thereby demonstrating that he is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of what that law requires—will be blessed in what he does.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my pathway. I have given my word and affirmed it, to keep your righteous judgments.
Instruction that comes from you is better for me than thousands of gold and silver coins.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.
Psalms 19:7-8, 11
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; … Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
2 Peter 3:8-9
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
1 Peter 4:6
For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's, but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.
Sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth.
You are already clean because of what I've spoken to you.
The fear of the LORD is clean, standing forever. The judgments of the LORD are true; they are altogether righteous. They are more desirable than gold, even much fine gold. They are sweeter than honey, even the drippings from a honeycomb.
1 Peter 1:23-25
For you have been born again, not by a seed that perishes but by one that cannot perish—by the living and everlasting word of God. For "All human life is like grass, and all its glory is like a flower in the grass. The grass dries up and the flower drops off, but the word of the Lord lasts forever." Now this word is the good news that was announced to you.
1 Peter 1:22-23
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;
No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
For God shows no partiality. For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
1 Peter 3:18-20
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
You must understand this, my dear brothers. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. For human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
1 Timothy 4:12
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity.
1 Timothy 4:7-8
Do not have anything to do with godless myths and fables of old women. Instead, train yourself to be godly. Physical exercise is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do - this I keep on doing.
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character - hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit whom he has given to us.
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Let love be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another with brotherly affection. Honor one another above youirself. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. If your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by yuour eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died.
Psalms 14: 1-4
As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
Then he told them, "Be careful to guard yourselves against every kind of greed, because a person's life doesn't consist of the amount of possessions he has."
John replied, "No one can receive anything unless it has been given to them from heaven.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
A man can do no better than eat, drink, and enjoy toils of his labor. This is what I saw, and it was from the hand of God.
The heavens are declaring the glory of God, and their expanse shows the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech, night after night they reveal knowledge. There is no speech nor are there words—their voice is not heard— yet their message goes out into all the world, and their words to the ends of the earth. He has set up a tent for the sun in the heavens, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, or like a champion who rejoices at the beginning of a race. Its circuit is from one end of the sky to the other, and nothing is hidden from its heat.
I will leave and go back to my place until they admit their offense and seek my face. When affliction comes to them, they will eagerly seek me.
For I want to let you know about this mystery, brothers, so that you will not claim to be wiser than you are: Stubbornness has come to part of Israel until the full number of the gentiles comes to faith. In this way, all Israel will be saved, as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will remove ungodliness from Jacob. This is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
1 Corinthians 3:11-15
After all, no one can lay any other foundation than the one that is already laid, and that is Jesus the Messiah. Whether a person builds on this foundation with gold, silver, expensive stones, wood, hay, or straw, the workmanship of each person will become evident, for the day of judgment will show what it is, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person's action. If what a person has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If his work is burned up, he will suffer loss. However, he himself will be saved, but it will be like going through fire.
1 Corinthians 3:16
You know that you are God's sanctuary and that God's Spirit lives in you
"Ask and it shall be given unto you. Search and you will find. Knocking and the door will be opened unto you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Enter by the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter by it. For narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
You have heard a saying, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. I am always with you, to the end of the age.”
“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
When he came closer and saw the city, he began to grieve over it: "If you had only known today what could have brought you peace! But now it is hidden from your sight, because the days will come when your enemies will build walls around you, surround you, and close you in on every side. They will level you to the ground—you and those who live within your city limits. They will not leave one stone on another within your walls, because you didn't recognize the time when God came to help you."
2 Timothy 1:6-7
For this reason, I remind you to fan into flames the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline.
1 Timothy 4:4-5
For everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
For if anyone thinks he is something when he is really nothing, he is only deceiving himself. Each person must examine his own actions, and then he can take pride about his own accomplishments without comparing himself to somebody else. For everyone must carry his own load.
Leviticus 11:44-45, 19:2, 20:7
1 Peter 1:13-16
Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be self-controlled, and set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus, the Messiah, is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. Instead, be holy in every aspect of your life, just as the one who called you is holy. For it is written, "You must be holy, because I am holy."
1 Peter 5:5-7
Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand so that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 2:15-17
For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil, live as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood of believers. Fear God. Honor the president.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Deuteronomy 6:5, Matthew 22:37, Mark 12: 30, Luke 10:27
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Psalms 118:22-24, Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10, Luke 20:17, Acts 4:11
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all that he has made. All your works shall praise you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!
Deuteronomy 31:8, Hebrews 13:5
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be discouraged.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good and his love endures forever, and his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; proclaim his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all nations! For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
As iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens a friend's character.
1 Corinthians 13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
In all things I did I have shown you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
1 Corinthians 7:7
Actually I would prefer that all of you were as I am; but each man has his own gift from God, one person this gift, another one that gift.
1 Corinthians 7:23-24
God bought you for a price; so do not become slaves of people. Brothers, each of you should remain in fellowship with God in the same situation that God called you to.
1 Corinthians 1:10
By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ I appeal to all of you, brothers, that all of you agre with one antoher so that there will be no divisions among you. Be completely united in mind and purpose.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you! If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are his temple.
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as the scripture says, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him."
2 Corinthians 4:8-10
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; frustrated, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.
When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.
The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious and adds persuasiveness to his lips.
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things there is no law.
But I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, then why, as if you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules — “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (these are destined to perish with use)—according to human commands and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame because they have nothing bad to say about us.
But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give you as teh world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes words away from the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
1 Peter 1:24-25
for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
