Flight of ideas
Overproduction of speech.
Characterized by rapid shifts from one topic to another and fragmented ideas.
Like a bird flying from branch to branch without any settling
Loose Association
lack of logical relationship between thoughts and ideas.
ex. “I want some ice cream. Her skin is so soft and creamy. Have you had the cheesecake at the restaurant?”
Neologisms
Creation of new word(s) y the patient Tend to be a combination of existing words.
Neo-new.
Perseveration
Involuntary excessive continuation or repetition of a single response, idea or activity.
Repeats the same idea in response to different questions
ex—OCD and counting
—idea: I am sick
Circumstantial
Thought and speech associated with excessive and unessisary detail, usually relevant to the question.
An answer is eventually given
ie–delay in reaching the point due to details
Tangential
Like circumstantial in which unnecessary and excessive detail is given regarding a question but the person eventually will diverge from the central point and never answers the original question
ie–never gets to the point
Thought Blocking
Sudden stopping of a train of thought.

A sudden stop in the midst of a sentence
Word Salad
a patient says a series of words the seam completely unrelated
Clang Association
Sounds like an individual is rhyming, and contines their speech with this way of talking.
ex. “You are very cute. A cute mute, who sings in a suit, while eating his fruit.”
Echolalia
Repeating like a parrot
Mutism
Inability OR refusal to speak
Poverty of speech
Minimal speech.
Rare to spontaneous
