Describe how some mixtures can be separated by chromatography
A
The solvent flows along the paper through the spots and on, carrying the substances from the spot. Each of these will, if the solvent mixture has been well chosen, move at a different rate from the others

Explain how substances can be separated by chromatography
A
As the solvent soaks up the paper, it carries the mixtures with it. Different components of the mixture will move at different rates. This separates the mixture out.
