Methods Of Training Flashcards
What is interval training?
High Intensity, Structured in reps and sets, Can be done through training on a track, circuit training, weight training
What is weight / resistance training?
- a form of interval training including reps, sets and rests
- weight provides a load of resistance for the muscle to work against
What is plyometric training?
- involves jumping / bounding often over obstacles
- high intensity
- short duration
- breaks between sets
- focused on speed, not endurance
What is continuous training?
- you continue running
- lasts between 20 and 60 minutes
- no breaks
- steady pace (within aerobic training zone)
What is fartlek training?
-a form of continuous training
-changes in speed, incline, and terrain (to provide changes in exercise intensity)
What is circuit training?
-Different stations where athletes move around
-Usually between 6-12 reps
-Variety of stations (e.g. sit-ups, push-ups etc)
What are the advantages of interval training?
-Improves performance + strength
-Can improve speed and power
What are the advantages of Fartlek training?
Improves CV fitness
Improves muscular endurance
No equipment is needed
What are the advantages of Circuit Training?
Can improve any component of fitness
Easily adaptable intensity
What are the advantages of Plyometric Training?
Improves power
Good for activities which involves fast and explosive movements
What are the advantages of Weight/Resistance Training?
Improves muscular endurance, strength+power
What are the advantages of Continuous Training?
Improves CV fitness, Muscular Endurance
Can be done swimming, cycling, running
Reduces risk of coronary heart disease
What are the disadvantages of Continuous Training?
Time consuming
Can cause impact injuries
Can be boring
What are the disadvantages of Fartlek Training?
Doesn’t improve muscular strength or power
Some urban areas lack different terrain
What are the disadvantages of Circuit Training?
Expensive (equipment)
Takes time to set up
What are the disadvantages of Interval Training?
Can be boring
Potential for overtraining if not managed properly
Can be very tiring
What are the disadvantages of Plyometric Training?
Does not improve CV fitness
Can become injured if not managed properly
What are the disadvantages of Weight/Resistance Training?
Can be expensive
Poor technique can cause injury
