Micro Intro Lab Flashcards
(8 cards)
Sample is placed in a
container of growth
medium
INOCULATION
Creates the proper
growth with respect to
temperature and gas
requirements
INCUBATION
Once the cultures have grown, they may
need to be reinoculated (and incubated) in such a way that separate species are obtained
Isolation
Samples are observed macroscopically and
microscopically, possibly with the aid of staining
Inspection
The identity of the isolated microbe is determined, usually to the species level. Inspection may not be
enough to identify some microbes, but additional techniques include biochemical tests, immunologic
tests, and genetic analysis
Identification
3 ways to inoculate
- Streak plate method
- Pour plate method
- Spread plate method
Uses ultraviolet radiation as the illuminating
source
Fluorescence microscope
Uses a laser beam as the illuminating source
Confocal microscope
