Haemophilus Influenzae

Categorized based upon the presence or absence of a capsule
Typeable strains produce a capsule (more invasive)- evade phagocytosis- vaccine available
Nontypeable strains do not produce a a capsule (less invasive)

Aerosolization transmission

A

Type B (HIB)-epiglottitis, septic arthritis, meningitis

Cetriaxone- treat meningitis. Rifampin prophylaxis to close contacts

Nontype-> sinusitis, otitis media, conjunctivitis- moxicillan, cavulanite
