Microscopes and Microscopy Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are the types of microscope?
- Optical
- Electron
- Scanning probe
What is the resolution of a microscope?
Its ability to separate clearly, 2 points close together.
What are the factors that influence the resolution of a microscope?
- Wavelength of light
- Numerical aperture (light gathering capacity of the objective lens)
What is the major difference between resolution and magnification?
Magnification can be increased but resolution can’t.
What are the types of microscope?
Simple monocular Simple binocular Compound monocular Compound binocular Dissection binocular Transmission electron Scanning electron
State the parts of a microscope and their functions
Objective lens Diaphragm Fine adjustment knob Stage Illuminator Base Condenser Eyepiece
What are electron microscopes
They use beam of highly energized electrons to examine objects on a very fine scale. It gives information on the Topography, Morphology, Composition, Crystallographic info of the object being viewed.
