preparing the slide (step 1)

• add a drop of water to the middle of a clean slide
• cut a slice of onion and peel off epidermal tissue
• place the tissue into the water on the slide
• add a drop of iodine solution
• place a cover slip on top

using the light microscope (step 2)

• clip slide onto the stage
• select the lowest powered objective lense
• use coarse adjustment knob to move the stage up
• look down the eyepiece. use coarse adjustment
  knob to move it down until it focuses

• draw what you see under the microscope using a
  pencil
• include a title
• label the important features
