What are the four virtues of an officer’s commission?
Fidelity: Faithful, loyalty, support.
Valor: ‘Warrior Ethos’, military honor, bravery, fearlessness.
Abilities: ‘Multi Capable Airmen’ and a commitment to continue growth in your abilities.
Patriotism: Love for country.
What is the meaning of the oath of office?
An Oath is taken to support and defend the United States Constitution against all enemies, both in the US and foreign; not a political party, any individual, or to the branch itself. You will do the best you possibly can and discharge as necessary.
What is the relationship between the oath of office/commission and legality?
As an Officer, you have an obligation to uphold legality and act within the law. You must take accountability for your own actions, your subordinates, and those in leadership above you.
What are the ultimate and direct sources of an officer’s authority?
Ultimate source: Constitution & Congress
Direct source: President.
What are the types of officer authority?
Legal

What guidelines must be met for an order to be enforceable?
- Within realm of authority
- Related to military duty, morale, or discipline
- Clear & unequivocal
- Received & understood
What distinguishes properly and improperly applied military authority?
Properly applied authority involves lawful orders and due process of law. Improperly applied authority may involve violations of private lives or American citizens.
What are an officer’s responsibilities?
Execute Mission, Lead People, Manage Resources, Improve Unit.
What is the Joint Ethics Regulation (JER)?
The JER provides a framework for ethical conduct and establishes standards for members of the Department of Defense (DoD).
What are some standards/principles of ethical conduct?
No use of public office for private gain
Disclose waste, fraud, and abuse
No outside employment/conflicts with official duties
Do not use rank to further private interest
What are the rules regarding gifts under the JER?
DoD personnel are prohibited from soliciting or accepting gifts from prohibited sources and subordinates should not give gifts to their superiors.
What constitutes misuse of government property?
Using government resources for personal purposes or unauthorized disclosure of classified information.
What are the restrictions on seeking employment with contractors?
Individuals leaving the DoD are restricted from seeking employment with contractors they were involved with during their tenure.
What is improper influence and favoritism in the context of the JER?
DoD personnel are prohibited from using their official position for personal gain or making decisions based on personal relationships.
What is the prohibition against misuse of public office for private gain?
DoD employees must not engage in political activities prohibited under the Hatch Act or exploit their position for personal gain.
What happens if a DoD member fails to report improper conduct?
Penalties for violation can be criminal, civil, administrative punishment to include punishment under the UCMJ

What is the purpose of the Airman Leadership School (ALS)?
To prepare Senior Airmen to step into the role of supervisors and frontline leaders, focusing on leadership, communication, and team management.
