Midterm Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
Faradays constant
A
9.6485x10^4 C*mol
2
Q
For standard potentials, how do u find Ecell std based off the cathode and anode standard potentials?
A
Do NOT invert and base them all off the reduction potentials, Ecell=Ecathode-Eanode
3
Q
What does n representing in free energy = -nFEcell?
A
The unit number of electrons in the redox equation. The nF gives u the total charge as it’s been observed that a mole of electrons is equivalent to a Faradays amount of charge. Ecell is the potential differencei n the battery. Recall the laws of physics, -qdeltav is work, and since electricity is relatively isothermal, the work is the Gibbs energy.
