Q

A

“Mother of Respiratory Problems”
chronic obstructive pulmomary disorder

16
Q

How does on obtain Emphysema

A

-Smoking ( guaranteed when smoking over 30 yrs)
symptoms begin 40 to 60 yrs
- Exposure to secondhand smoke
- Occupational exposure to fumes or dust
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor pollution ( heating fuel , car exhaust)

these cause a chemical imbalance in lungs - destruction of the alveoli

17
Q

Signs and symptoms of Emphysema

A
  • barrel chest
  • hyperresonance on percussion
  • decreased tactile fremitus and decreased breath sounds
  • Decreased chest expansion
  • Weight loss and malaise
  • Polycythemia
  • clubbing of fingers
18
Q

Butterfly rash of faces indicates what type of disorder

A

without lab findings=Lupus SLE

19
Q

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

A

classic lesion is a butterfly rash over bridge of nose
SLE is an auto immune , connective tissue disease that usually affects young women.
-it affects the skin, kidneys, serous membrane, endocardium and sometimes CNS
arterioles, venules and capillaries necrosis

20
Q

Splinter hemorrhages of the fingernails may indicate what

A

Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis

21
Q

Koilonychia (spoon nail) indicates

A

Iron deficiency anemia or fungus infection

22
Q

Clubbing of the nails indicate what

A

Chronic Hypoxia (COPD)

23
Q

Stippling of the nails

24
Q

Hyperthyroidism can lead to what disorders

A
Graves
Thyrotoxic goiter (AKA)
25
what is the cause of Grave's Disease?
the immune system attacks the thyroid gland | cause to overproduce thyroxin
26
Hypothyroidism can lead to what disorders
Myxedema Cretinism of the thyroid gland can be after puberty or congenital
27
What is Myxedema
Changes in the dermis due to hypothyroidism dull, puffy, coarse, dry, scaling yellowed skin, coarse hair temporal loss of eyebrows preorbital edema , prominen
28
What is Cretinism
is a condition that severely stunts growth - physical and mental due to congenital hypothyroidism
29
Breathing abnormalities
TB asthma pneumonia Emphysema
30
Night sweats and fever is a sign or what
TB | Hodgkin's lymphoma
31
Pneumonia
inflammatory response of alveolar spaces due to an infective agent caused from: bacterial fungal and viral
32
Signs/ symptoms of pneumonia
``` high fever tachypnea shallow breathing chest pain sputum production loss of expansion of lungs due to consolidation ```
33
Asthma
airway changes cause obstruction to the free flow of air in out of lungs
