What is inflammation?

WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF TISSUE HEALING?
(1) – Inflammatory phase: prevents further damage(swelling) Rids the body of foreign
materials and nonviable tissues
(2) – Proliferation phase: Skin (Tissue) repair is initiated with collagen alignment
(3) – Remodeling or maturation phase: Continual restructuring of collagen from weak fibers
to stronger fibers in an organized manner to meet the demands of the mechanical forces

What steps would you take before diagnosing a patient?

Goals include: cure, control symptoms, support or a combination of all 3

What is pain?
Subjective and individualized Physiological or psychological Use a variety of terms to describe pain “Burning” along a nerve root “Cramping” describes abdominal-visceral “Throbbing” head pain Other terms: shooting, stabbing, or stinging May be based on cultural values; past experiences; religious beliefs; emotional support; anxiety; level of education; and specific situation
What is referred pain?
Neurons travel a parallel pathway along spinal cord to brain, resulting in referred pain in another part of the body
What do pain receptors respond to?
Temperature, Damage, Chemicals
What is psychological pain?
feelings of sadness, despair, anger, depression, helplessness, or hopelessness thought processes may be impaired sleep patterns may be disrupted may exhibit changes in personality may cry or show signs of withdrawal
