Pronoun
A word used in place of one or more nouns.
Adjective

Preposition
A word used to show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence.
Conjunction
A word that connects words or groups of words.
Interjection
An exclamation that expresses emotion.
Simple Sentence
Has a subject, verb, and a completed thought.
Compound Sentence
Joe waited for the train, but the train was late.
Compounds are connected by a coordinating conjunction.
Complex Sentence
While he waited at the train station, joe realized the train was late.
Protagonist
The main character whose activities are central to the plot.
Antagonist
The person who acts in opposition to the protagonist
Setting
The location of events in time and place.
Conflict
The basic struggle, tension, or problem within a novel or story

First person
Person telling the story is a character, refers to self as “I”, knowledge is limited to what that character knows
Third person
Person telling the story is not a character in the story, knows more than the audience
Third person omniscient
Narrator is not a character, knows everything about everyone
Character
Persons, creatures or anything else that is involved in the story
