Midterm Study Flashcards
Traffic Management, Ladder Belts, Electrical Safety, Post-Fire Decontamination, Orientation/History, Emergency Rescue Procedures, SCBA, Fill Station, IFSTA Chapters 1/3/4/5
What is the maximum user weight (including clothing) for the use of a Ladder Belt?
141 kg or 310lbs
How many lanyards with self-locking connecting hooks are included on ladder belts?
2 - one for each hand when climbing aerial ladder
When must a ladder belt be removed from service?
and where should the ladder belt be sent to for inspection?
if it is subjected to impact forces or extreme use.
The ladder belt should be sent to Equipment and Supply for inspection.
What are the 3 steps in donning a ladder belt?
1) Wrap the belt around the waist (above the hips)
2) lace belt tongue through buckle
3) The tongue of the buckle must be inserted through the grommet (don’t punch a new hole in the belt web)
When should you inspect a ladder belt?
before use, after extended storage, and annually
What parts of the ladder belt should be inspected?
D-rings, buckles, loop keepers, grommets, body pads, etc
What is the lifespan of a ladder belt?
10 years
What is the purpose of a Yates Voyager Harness?
when working in or on operating aerial devices.
What anchorage is required when using a Yates Voyager harness when working on Aerial platforms?
The harness will attach to Aerial using the dorsal connection and will include a short 1.3 meter Sala shock absorber, and a self-retracting lanyard (SRL).
Do Aerial platforms have designated anchorage connectors?
Yes
What is each D-Ring’s purpose on the Yates harness?
- main rescuer connection (centered on waist)
- rescuer’s secondary connection, commonly for belay (located near chest)
- fall arrest attachments (located upper back)
- Two side waist D-rings used for work positioning and travel where fall potential exists (on each hip)
Before working from heights what should you ensure is securely tightened on the Yates harness?
Front screw link
What are the symptoms of Harness Suspension Syndrome?
Faintness, Difficulty Breathing, Sweating, Paleness, Hot Flashes, Increased Pulse and BP followed by low pulse and BP, Altered level of consciousness, Visual disturbances, dizziness, nausea, unconsciousness
What is Harness Suspension Syndrome (HSS)?
When the patient remains motionless in the harness resulting in blood pooling in the legs and occlusion of veins by the harness. When a patient is rescued there is a risk that toxic pooled blood will rush to the heart causing an overload of the right ventricle.
How can you help prevent Harness Suspension Syndrome (HSS)?
Tell the Patient to continually move their legs, as well as flex their leg muscles to maintain that blood flow.
How do you treat Harness Suspension Syndrome (HSS)?
While suspended: provide high-flow oxygen and encourage them to keep moving/flexing their limbs.
When a patient is removed: remove the harness and tight clothing but never lay the patient supine. Try to keep the patient vertical as much as possible to prevent all that pressure from going to the heart
What class of harness is the Yates Voyager Harness?
Class 3
Can all 5 D-rings be used to attach to anchor points on the Yates harness?
yes
What are the 3 stages of decon?
Stage 1 - one scene (gross decon)
stage 2 - before entering the truck (bagging gear)
stage 3 - back at the station
What is gross decon?
washing and brushing debris from the gear before removing it.
What things should you take into consideration when setting up a decon area?
- Elevation: should be uphill from the hot zone (if able)
- space: large enough space
- wind: upwind of the hot zone is preferred
- drainage: avoid slip hazards and beware of runoff
- safety: The area should be free of collapse zone and safe from vehicle traffic
- easily accessible supplies needed: hose, nozzle, brushes
what 8 things are in a decon kit?
1) Wipes
2) disposable coveralls
3) hand brushes
4) seat covers
5) disposable bags for bagging gear and station wear
6) gear tags
7) zip ties
8) medical gloves
Who should go through Gross Decon first?
those with the lowest air supply
How do cold weather operations change post-fire decon?
Brush off the debris and then put on coveralls in the decon kit to continue decon at the station. Also, use seat covers.
