First comprehensive plan for orderly development of a great American city. Launched the City Beautiful Movement. Spawned civic center and community centers around the nation.
Major components: system of regional highways, systematic arrangement of streets/avenues, diagonal boulevards to facilitate flow to and from CBD, improved railroads terminals, improved lake frontage with parks, beaches, off-shore islands, extension of outer park system (mostly forest preserves). Promoted new centers of intellectual life and civic administration.
