23
Q

Phenytoin (Dilantin)

Dose/Route

A

Seizures/status epilepticus: 10-15 mg/ kg slow IV. No more then 50 mg/min
Dysrhythmias: 100 mg slow IV (over 5 min) to maximum of 1000 mg

Seizures/status epilepticus: 8-10mg/kg slow IV | Dysrhythmias: 3-5 mg/kg slow IV
25
Tetracaine | Class
Opthalmic, anathetics
26
Tetracaine | Description
Topical application to the eye, local anesthetics penetrate to sensory nerve endings in corneal tissue. Blocks both initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing neuronal membranes permeability to sodium ions. Reversibly stabilizes the membrane and inhibits depolarization, resulting in failure of a propagated action potential and subsequent conduction block
27
Tetracaine | Indications
Eye injuries or foreign body
28
Tetracaine | Contraindication
Hypersensitivity
29
Tetracaine | Precautions
Hyperthyroid disease, cardiac disease
30
Tetracaine | Dose/Route
1-2 drops per eye
31
Timoptic | Class
Beta blocker
32
Timoptic | Description
Non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent
33
Timoptic | Indications
HTM, MI elevated ocular pressure
34
Timoptic | Contraindications
Asthma, severe COPD, sinus brady, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, cardiogenic shock
35
Timoptic | Precautions
Readily absorbed
36
Timoptic | Dose/Route
Ophthalmic: 1 drop per eye BID
37
Sodium Bicarbonate | Anther Name
NaHCO3
38
NaHCO3 | Another Name
Sodium Bicarbonate
39
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Description ```
Provides vascular bicarbonate to assist buffer system in reducing the effects of metabolic acidosis and treatment of some overdoses
40
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Indications ```
Tricyclic antidepressant and barbiturate overdose, refractory acidosis and hyperkalemia
41
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Contraindications ```
None where used for severe hypoxia or late cardiac arrest
42
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Precaution ```
May cause alkalosis if given in large quantities. May deactivate vasopressors and may precipitate with calcium chloride
43
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Dose/Route ```
1 mEq/kg IV, hen 0.5 mEq/kg/ 10 min | Pedi: same, may also be given IO
44
``` Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) Class ```
Alkalizing Agent
45
Thiamine | Class
Vitamin
46
Thiamine | Description
Vitamin B1 which is required to convert glucose into energy. Not manufactured by body, provided by ingested food
47
Thiamine | Indication
Coma of unknown origin, chronic alcoholism with associated coma, delirium tremens
48
Thiamine | Contraindication
None
49
Thiamine | Precautions
Hypersensitivity
50
Thiamine | Dose/Route
100 mg IV/IM | Pedi: 10-25 mg IV/IM
51
Benzocaine Spray | Another Name
Hurricane
52
Hurricane | Another Name
Benzocaine Spray
53
``` Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Class ```
Topical Anesthetic
54
``` Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Description ```
Stabilizes neuronal membrane, which blocks the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses.
55
``` Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Indications ```
Used as lubricant and topical anesthetic to facilitate passage of diagnostic and treatment devises. Suppresses the pharyngeal and tracheal gag reflex
56
``` Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Dose/Route ```
0.5-1 second spray, repeat as needed | Pedi: 0.25-0.5 second spray, repeat as needed
