Mitosis Flashcards
(10 cards)
Interphase
The stage where DNA is replicated
Prophase
DNA condenses, chromosomes become visible and the nuclear membrane breaks down
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell
Anaphase
Spindle fibres split the chromosomes down the centre and pull one chromatid to either side of the cell
Telophase
Process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of a parent cell into two identical daughter cells
Cytokinesis
Cytokinesis is the physical process of cell division
Mitosis definition
The process by which a single parent cell divides to make two new daughter cells.
Mitosis - Growth
Growth: mitosis produces new cells
Mitosis - Repair
Repair: to replace damaged or dead cells.
Mitosis - Asexual reproduction
Asexual reproduction: mitosis produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.
