1
Q
Define
Centrosome
A
Organelle that produces spindle fibres during nuclear division.
2
Q
List
Stages of mitosis
A
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
3
Q
Explain
Why isn’t interphase part of mitosis?
A
4
Q
Outline
Prophase
(Stage 1 — Setup)
A
- Chromatin condenses to form chromosomes.
- The nuclear membrane disintegrates, freeing the chromosomes inside it.
- Centrosomes? move to opposite poles in the cell, and form the meiotic spindle.
5
Q
Outline
Metaphase
(Stage 2 — Priming)
A
- Chromosomes align along the cell’s equatorial plane.
6
Q
Outline
Anaphase
(Stage 3 — Action)
A
Spindle microtubules pull the sister chromatids to opposite poles of the cell.
Now, each pole of the cell has identical chromosomes.
Additionally, the sister chromatids are now all individually chromosomes again.
7
Q
Outline
Telophase
(Stage 4 — Cleanup; opposite of prophase.)
A
- Chromosomes decondense back into chromatids.
- Two new nuclear membranes form for each daughter cell.
- The spindle microtubules disappear.
+ a cleavage furrow forms in preparation for cytokinesis.
