Mitosis
Division of the cell nucleus. First stage in cell division.
Cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm. Second stage of cell division.
Interphase
In between cell division, a period of growth.
Cell cycle
Series of events that cells go through as they grow and divide (imat)
Prophase
First and longest phase of mitosis. Chromosomes become visible and double, centrioles move and ,make the spindle, nuclear envelope disappears. The P in ipmat .
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. The m in ipmat
Anaphase
Sister chromatids move away from each other. The a in ipmat.
Telophase
Chromosomes loses shape, cell membrane pinches in, nuclear envelope reforms. The t in ipmat.
Chromosomes
Visible genetic material. Paired chromatids.
Sister chromatids
2 identical connected strands of a chromosome.
Chromatin
Thin, unorganized genetic material. Like a bowl of spaghetti.
Cancer
Uncontrolled cell growth. Does not respond to normal growth regulation signals.
Asexual reproduction
Process by which a single parent reproduces by itself.
DNA replication
Process by which DNA copies itself.
Budding
Process of asexual reproduction where the parent cell divides itself disproportionately.
Binary fission
Process of asexual reproduction where the parent cell divides itself equally.
Regeneration
Process of cell division where an organism regrows and entire body part. For example a starfish can regrow and arm
Cell division
Process by which a cell divides into 2 daughter cells. The daughter cells are identical to the parent cell.
