Stabilize low back
Instruct patient to drag heel up other shin
Press on lateral knee and medial malleolus to induce hip extension, internal rotation, adduction

Instruct patient to swing ankle outwards, without allowing for lifting at the hip
Press medially proximal to ankle

Palpate between iliac crest and greater trochanter
Instruct patient to lift leg towards ceiling
Press down proximal to knee
*Bend bottom leg to a 45 degree angle

Place toes off table (leg in slight hip flexion and internal rotation)
Instruct patient to lift leg up towards ceiling

Apply pressure (while keeping elbow straight and bending from hips) proximal to knee

Patient has knee bent just over 90 degrees
Pull into knee extension just proximal to ankle

SITTING Stabilize side of hip Place roll under knee Instruct patient to kick leg out Press down (elbow straight, bending at hips) proximal to ankle *make sure knee is bent about 10 degrees
Tibialis anterior
SITTING
Stabilize behind proximal to ankle
Instruct patient to point foot up and in
Press down and into eversion
Extensor digitorum longus and brevis
LONG SITTING
Stabilize plantar side of foot
Instruct patient to lift toes upwards
Press down, 4 small toes
Extensor hallucis longus
LONG SITTING
Stabilize plantar side of foot
Instruct patient to lift big toe upwards
Pull down on big toe
Flexor digitorum longus
LONG SITTING
Stabilize dorsum of foot
Ask patient to curl toes
Pull up on each toe individually
Fibularis longus and brevis
SIDE LYING
Stabilize proximal to ankle
Palpate anterolaterally to LATERAL malleolus
Instruct patient to move toes down and up
Press foot into inversion
Tibialis posterior
SIDE LYING
Stabilize proximal to ankle
Palpate 1st tendon behind MEDIAL malleolus
Instruct patient to move foot down and in
Press into eversion
Gastrocnemius

STANDING
Stabilize patients hands
Instruct patient to stand on one straight leg (gastroc) or one bent leg (soleus)
Patient does 4-5 full ROM ankle raises
Trunk flexion
Rectus abdominis
SUPINE
Instruct patient to put arms behind head and lift shoulders and upper back off table and a into a sit up
5- hands behind head, inf angle of scap clears table
4- hands crossed on chest, inf angle clears table
3+- arms at sides, inf angle of scapula clears table
3 - arms at sides, upper portion of scap clears table
2 - arms at side, head and c spine clear table
Trunk rotation
External and internal obliques
SUPINE Stabilize thighs Instruct patient to put arms behind head and twist so their elbow comes toward you 5- arms behind head 4- arms across chest 3- arms by sides
Trunk extension
Erector spinae, multifidus, semispinalis thoracis
PRONE
Stabilize at ischial tube
Instruct patient to put arms behind head and lift chest off table
5- xiphoid process clears table with arms behind neck
4- xiphoid process clears table with arms behind low back
3- xiphoid process clears table with arms at side
2- partial ROM with arms at side
Hip Flexors (iliopsoas and rectus femoris)
SITTING
Stabilize low back
Instruct patient to lift knee towards ceiling
Press down proximal to knee (without gripping thigh)
Hip external rotators
