He set up the SS
They were trained to be ruthless
They could arrest people without trial and search houses
They hunted down any opposition and ruthlessly destroyed it
controlled because they terrified people - scared them into silence

Question two: The Gestapo
They were the Nazi secret police
kept a watch on German citizens
Used methods like phone tapping and collecting information from informants
Anybody seen to be anti-Nazi was targeted and could be imprisoned, tortured or sent to a concentration camp without trial.
Controlled because It scared people into silence
Made them think about what they were saying and doing at all times
Made them uncomfortable in their own homes
Stopped any anti-Nazi opinions being spread.
Question two: The courts
All judges had to take the pledge of loyalty to Hitler and become Nazi members
This made having a fair trial impossible
New Nazi laws, punishment of death, were enforced
Controlled because it scared opposition and stopped them from uprising
If they saw people being unfairly punished it would influence their decisions.
Question two : conclusion
The Gestapo most effective because they affected everyone’s lives - made everyone scared and uncomfortable even in their own homes. Other two only really affect you if you’ve done something wrong.
Question three: Armistice
Signed in 1918 but still affected people and made them angry in 1919 and so on
German people saw it as a stab in the back because they thought they were doing well in the war
Labelled the government the November criminal’s
Seemed like a waste of lives and a wasted effort to just pull out
They were new so started with a bad reputation
Question three: The treaty of Versailles
L- lost 13% of land A- army 100,000 M- Owed 6.6 billion B- received all blame for the war made them unpopular because they lost security and had to accept blame so felt isolated from the rest of the world.
Question three: Hyperinflation
1923
The country had more paper than gold because they printed more to pay the workers

losing savings
unpopular because they were starving and cold and living in poverty.
Question three: Conclusion
Armistice most important because it began the hatred and triggered the other two to happen.
Question 6 a: Children
Their job was to increase the population by having many children
They were rewarded medals for having many children
They had to increase the population because it was low after the war and this was successful
It was also to make the future generation pure Aryans
They were encouraged to have big hips to produce healthy babies.

They had to educate themselves about their god (Hitler) and then educate others like their children on his ideals.
Question 6a: Kitchen
They had to keep a descent home for their family and husband.
Had to cook good meals so that they would grow strong and healthy
Question 6b: suggested isolation into legal discrimination
1933- Boycott of Jewish shops (SA stood outside to stop people going in) meant they couldn’t make money.
1933- Jewish and Aryan children not allowed to play together and Jews banned from certain jobs. - begins to legally segregate them.
1935- Nuremburg laws- Not allowed to marry Germans, No Jew could be a German citizen- completely segregated - took away identity - no longer apart of where they lived…
Question 6b: Violence
1938- Jews banned from owning businesses - night of broken glass (smashed all Jewish shops, houses, sinagogs and beat up any Jewish man they saw.) - attacks became violent now and became much more personal.
1938- Had to wear star of David at all times- isolated them further- couldn’t get away from the fact that they were different- pointed out constantly- again more of a personal attack as it affects your every day life.
Question 6b: Murder
1939- Jews had to be in homes after nightfall- controlled their lives further. Einsatzgruppen- (walked them for miles then made them dig their own graves then shot them into them). - began to murder them
1941- Moved them into Ghettos (survived on 200-300 calories a day - starved them) - complete isolation from the rest of Germany.
1942- The final solution (concentration camps)- Began killing them in mass.
Question 6b: Conclusion
The biggest change was from violence and segregation to killing them in mass. It was no longer just badly affecting their day to day lives but actually committing mass murder and taking away their lives.
