Who were the sparatist rising and why did they want a revolution?

A

A communist group set up by Rosa Luxemburg and karl Liebnecht.
They didn’t trust the government as they didn’t believe they would improve the lives of the working people.

What did the spartacist rising do and was it successful?

A

They tried to start a revolution and thought that protesters would join them but they didn’t and the government ordered the army to stop it.
It was badly planned and they didn’t get the support they expected from other left wing groups.

Who were the red rising in the Ruhr and why did they want to stand up to the government?

A

Groups of workers led by members of the communist party.

They were angry about bad pay and bad working conditions.

What happened with the red rising in the Ruhr and was it a success?

A

Their army of 50,000 workers occupied the Ruhr region and took control of it’s raw materials. The government army crushed the rising.
They had weak leadership and an unclear plan. There were strikes and demonstrations but they were never a serious threat to the Weimar government.

Who were the kapp Putsch and why did they want to stand up to the government?
They were Freikorps units, led by wolfgang kapp. | They were ordered to be disbanded as they weren't needed now that left wing groups were crushed.

What did the Kapp Putch do and was it a success?
They marched to berlin and forced the government to flee. They put forward kapp as the new leader of Germany. They failed to win support. Workers went on strike making it impossible for Kapp to rule. After 4 days he fled from berlin and Elbert's government returned.

Who were the Munich Putch and why did they want to stand up to the government?
They were the Nazi party. They had 55,000 members and their own private army called the SA. They believed democracy led to a weak government and that there should be one political party with one leader.

What did the Munich Putch do?
They planned to take over the government. Hitler and 600 of his SA burst into a meeting and forced kahr to promise to support their plan.

Was the Munich Putch a success?
It wasn't properly planned. kahr was allowed to leave the beer hall and the next day withdrew his support. The army was sent to crush the Nazi party and the leaders (including Hitler) were arrested. he was sent to prison for 5 years but was released after 9 months however, they fell apart without a leader.
