(4 cards)
Globalisation
Gini coefficient = inequalities
Rostow’s model = how developed nations and countries have developed
- China expand economy rapidly in takeoff phase through manufacturing industries
Regeneration
Kuznet’s curve
Increased income due to regeneration will directly lead to an increased care for the environment due to more income for environmental projects - therefore regen can improve local economies and natural environment
Superpowers
Rostow = USA is a larger superpower than China as the USA is in the phase of high mass consumption whereas China is between takeoff and drive to maturity phase
Wallerstein world systems theory = China and Africa have developed Neo colonialist relationships with African in the periphery and China in the semi-periphery
Mackinders heartland theory = protected from invasion by sea - whoever controls the heartland area would control the world due to resources
Russia becoming more of a threat and UK and USA - needs to be ‘contained’
Health, Human Rights and Intervention
Aid = short term is effective but long term leads to dependence
Intervention = short term is very effective as it reduces loss of life but long term creates instability and lets rogue groups take control
