Module 1: Movement Across the Lifespan Flashcards
Describe the movement patterns and types of movement in the womb?
- reciprocal kicking pattern, fidgety movements and decreased gravity facilitates movement
Describe the movement in infants?
motivated by survival, starting with rolling/crawling (need core strength), being able to sit up is important
- go from reflexive mvmt patterns to refined mvmt patterns
- play with toys is a motivator
Describe the movements experienced in childhood?
Movement is directed by play with friends and day to day activities
Describe the motivators of movement experienced by adolescents?
Mvmt is motivated by social pressures and what friends are doing
How is movement impacted in adulthood?
Adults move based on the job that they have and what activities they are intrinsically motivated to do. If it is not something they want to do, it probably won’t happen
How does pregnancy impact adult movement?
hormones and pregnancy can impact the desire to move, the ability to move and functionality of moving
What changes happen in older adulthood that impact movement?
Cellular degeneration decreases movement because moving becomes harder due to decreased flexibility and muscle strength which all leads to an increase in injuries due to falls
What are the 5 categories of movement?
Mobility, function, communication, leisure and occupational
What are the differences between intrinsic and extrinsic factors that impact movement?
Intrinsic: factors within the individual and their physical body as well as motivations
Extrinsic: factors that are outside the individual but still impact the ability of the person to move
