Q

With playback over M&E (music and sound effects), what do you need to remember? (2 answers)

A
  1. Projection. Project your dialogue correctly on delivery.
  2. Ensure you project whispers with enough projection to create good waveforms, while not introducing vocal sounds.

Yes you’ve got the right answers. Hydration and wearing quiet clothes are of course important, but to all dialogue, not just playback over M&E.

Q

What can we do to better differentiate between randomly-selected one-liners and alternate-takes? (4 answers)

A
  1. Apply ‘humanisation’ to the line: breathing, grunts, effort sounds, pain noises etc.
  2. Ad-libbing: If your voice director allows it, ad-lib as much as possible on these lines. This is especially important when scripts have been duplicated exactly, between characters and actors.
  3. Rehearse different intonation patterns by recording yourself as you did in the previous module.
  4. Get used to sight-reading and delivering with different intonation patterns.
