Who was Marco Polo?
Man from Venice that traveled the Silk Road to Southeast Asia & India, where he worked as a government official. He wrote a book when he came back to Venice and Asian goods became popular, increasing trade.
What were the 4 cities?
Genoa & Venice- port cities
Milan & Florence- trade/manufacturing cities, made silk,cloth,glass,etc.
Who was the Medici Family?
-Cosimo de’ Medici- head of family, banker, practically ruled Florence, invested in art, literature, culture, and education
What is interest?
-fee that people pay when paying back a loan.
What does Renaissance mean?
-rebirth
-after Middle Ages
-Greek & Roman art & ideas come back
What is humanism?
-new way of thinking & learning
-studied history, literature, public speaking, & art
-historians, writers, public speakers, and artists became well-respected.
