Evacuation
Identify all possible routes and shelters- assigned and alternative, on and off school grounds. Consider transportation, SPED (IEP), reunification annex, go kits. Minimize threat perceptions.
Shelter in place
Planning for an extended period of time, consider special and medical needs. Chemical, biological or weather related.
Lock down- Imminent threat
The threat is near the school or in the community, school grounds or inside- “soft” vs “hard” lockdowns.
Reunification
Notify families, location capacity, traffic flow, basic/medical needs, technology needs, coordination amongst staff. Greeters must be able to be calm under pressure and diffuse situations.
Public Health (outbreaks), Medical (first aid) , and Mental Health (suicide) Annex
Reaffirm perceptions of safety and security and meet basic physical needs.
Recovery
should promote resilience and healing. Consider temporary memorials and district policy.
Continuity of operations
How do schools plan to continue to operate in the case of a catastrophic event?
In the case that all data and files are lost?
