Module 3 - P6 - Materials Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
What is the formula for spring constant?
A
K = F/x
2
Q
What happens beyond the elastic limit of the spring?
A
The spring will be permanently changed and will behave like a plastic
3
Q
What happens when two springs are in parallel?
A
The spring constants add together and the springs are harder to stretch. If they are the same spring and same force the extension is halved and spring constant is doubled.
4
Q
What happens when two springs are in series?
A
If they are the same spring, the force is the same in each spring therefore the extension is doubled and spring constant is halved. Easier to stretch
