What is partial choking?
The airway is only partially blocked, the person can still breath
What is complete choking
The airway is completely blocked, the person can not breath, speak
What are the 3 ways you can help someone choking?
- Back Blows
- Abdominal Thrusts
- Chest Thrusts
You sre having a late lunch in an almost empty restaurant when a woman at the table begins to cough heavily. She is clutching her thirst with boath hands and looks like she is starting to panic. What should you do?
Encourage her to keep coughing
The woman stops coughing and starts making a high pitched noise. There is no ine else around, and the battery if your mobile phone is dead. Do you find a phone to call 911 or help her yourself?
Help her yourself by beginning to care for her immediately
You ask if you can help, and the woman nods. You plan to start giving abdominal thrusts, but when the woman stands up you see she is pregnant. What should you do?
Use a combination of back Blows and chest thrusts
You begin to give back Blows and chest thrusts, but the object doesn’t come out. The woman says in your arms and you realize she is un responsive. Do you find a phone and call 911 and begin CPR or find a phone call 911 and place her in the recovery position?
Find a phone and call EMS/911 then begin CPR
If a person is coughing and clutching his throat what is this telling you?
You should encourage the person
When would it be appropriate to perform abdominal Thrusts against the back of a chair?
When you are by yourself and choking

Perform abdominal combination of any two of the following: back blows, abdominal thrusts, and chest thrusts
