Module 5 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are dendrons?
Short extensions that come from the cell body, splitting off into smaller dendrites.
What is the role of dendrons?
Transmitting electrical impulses TOWARDS the cell body.
What are axons? What is their role?
Singular long nerve fibres protruding from the cell body.
Their role is to transmit electrical impulses AWAY from the cell body.
How many axons and dendrons does a sensory neurone have?
One axon, one dendron.
How many axons and dendrons does a relay neurone have?
Many of each.
How many axons and dendrons does a motor neurone have?
One long axon, many short dendrons.
What do ALL sensory neurones act as?
A TRANSDUCER, meaning they convert a stimulus into a nerve impulse.
What are the four types of sensory receptor present in animals? (State what each one is)
Mechanoreceptor (pressure/movement)
Chemoreceptor (chemicals)
Thermoreceptor (heat)
Photoreceptor (light)
What type of receptor is the pacinian corpuscle an example of?
Mechanoreceptor.
What is the resting potential normally?
-70mv.
