How do you estimate the value of a nonperfect square?
1. Find the perfect square immediately above the value
2. Find the perfect square immediately below the value
3. Calculate both of those square roots
4. Approximate the square root of the value to whichever perfect square/root is closer
32
How do you multiply radicals with the same index number?
Multiply the radicands, and write the product under the radical
33
How do you rationalize a single radical in the denominator?
Multiply the both the numerator and the denominator by the radical
34
How do you rationalize a binomial with a radical in the denominator of a fraction?
Multiply the numerator and the denominator by the conjugate of the binomial (the binomial with its opposite sign)
35
What is the Power To A Power Rule?
When there are exponents that are being raised to a power (ie - exponents that are governed by other exponents), multiply those exponents.
36
How do you isolate a number and remove the radical (determine the value of 60√x = 10√2 for example)
1. Rewrite the radicals as fractional exponents
2. Remove the radicals by raising each expression to the LCD of the exponents
37
What is the equivalent of x-1?
1/x
38
What is the equivalent of x1/2?
