Momentum and impulses Flashcards

1
Q

Explain Newton’s three laws of motion

A

Law 1 = Conservation of momentum. In absence of external force, objects stay in a constant state of motion.

Law 2 = Law of momentum/acceleration. Rate of change of object is proportional to the forces acting on it in the direction of the forces acting on it

Law 3 = law of action and reaction. every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Q

What is the relationship between momentum and impulse?

A

a change in momentum is produced by an impulse.

Impulse = force x time

  • measured in newtons
