Work power energy Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the differences between positive and negative work

A

positive work - force added in direction of displacement adds kinetic en

negative work - force being applied in opposite direction is negative work, decrease kinetic en

Q

Identify the different types of energy.

A

Mechanical energy is the ability to do work classified as either:

Kinetic energy (KE) - ability to do work taking into account motion

Potential energy (PE) - ability to do work taking position into account. for instance gravity affect.

Q

Explain how energy is transferred or transformed between systems.

A

when object is on ground and going up, potential en = 0, as go up, some kinetic en get converted to potential en via gravity and then reaches apex. Now kinetic en = 0 and then as object fall, en transferred back to kinetic.

Q

what is kinetic energy (KE)

A

ability to do work when moving, velocity and mass influence this. heavier bowling ball can do more work, faster bowling ball can do more work
