How are monoclonal antibodies made

A

Mouse is injected with a specific pathogen. This stimulates the lymphocytes to create antibodies which are then taken away and combined with a tumour cell. These cells are called hybridoma cells. The hybridoma cells then produce antibodies which are called monoclonal antibodies.

How does a pregnancy test work

A
  1. urine passes through the reaction zone
  2. HCG hormone binds to a mobile HCG antibody
  3. HCG hormone binds to the immobilised HCG antibody in the reaction zone
  4. Antibodies which do not attach to the HCG attach to the antibodies in the control zone
