Q

What are extrinsic motives?

A
  • provide early motivation.
  • if used too much, may undermine value of the activity so players just compete for the reward.
  • extrinsic rewards may create pressure to achieve and if they don’t, motivation can be lost.
  • the same pressure may also promote cheating.
